Fruit Researchs: Cherries

cherryBunchProduction of cherry has increased in the PNW in the recent years. High desert conditions of Idaho and other locations with similar climate such as Mashhad, Isfahan, and Taleghan in Iran are suitable for production of top quality sweet cherries. These areas have moderate temperatures in the spring, which gradually warms up in early summer, with limited rainfall. Lower rainfall in these regions will reduce the chance of rain cracking on the fruits. Cool night will result in fruits with greater fruit-stem removal force. This would result in a more shelf life and transportability. Our program has conducted research on various aspects of bio-regulators such as Trigger, Stimplex, GA, and CPPU as well as nutrition of cherries over the years.
